3 months: slow and fast

So, Sawyer has reached 3 months today. It doesn't feel like he has been around that long, but when I look back and think about the progress he has made and the things we have done, it feel like a lot longer than 3 months. Our days are pretty relaxed and slow paced, but seem to end very fast. Watching Sawyer grow right before my eyes goes so fast. We had the opportunity to see Jake's cousin's new baby Skye the other day and she was the same size as Sawyer was when he was born, yet she seems super tiny. To think that only a little over 2 months ago he was that size is crazy! It's also crazy to think about how just 3 months ago he couldn't do a thing except sleep and eat. The first couple of weeks I felt like I was just taking care of a doll at times. I loved him and thought he was so sweet and cute, but the boy just didn't interact at all. It's so fun to see how he's come so far so fast. He's getting really good at reaching for things, holding his head, he smiles and coos, he's working on sitting up, and he wiggles all over.

The two months was a bunch of little stressors: jaundis, circumcision, thrush, nursing problems, Dosh's jealous tantrums, and just getting used to the whole idea of a baby. On Sawyer's 2 month doctor visit, Sawyer couldn't turn his head anyway but left. It was even hard for him to hold his head straight forward. He also has a very flat spot in the back of the head. At the appointment the doctor said not to worry about it too much, but he did give us some activities and suggestions to do to help little Sawyer out. So, getting to get Sawyer to turn his head straight and right have been the goal of this past month. I'm happy to say by his 3 month b-day, he is doing fantastic at turning his head to the right. Now our problem is that his head is significantly flatter. I think it is because as we've worked on turning his head, he's been laying on it flat. We've done lots of tummy time and he likes to sit up big and be held a lot, so he doesn't really spend too much time on his back, but alas, his head is getting flatter and flatter. Last week, Grandma Garn, was so nice and brought over a wedge for him to sleep on. It helps them sleep on their side, so their head can cook on all sides. He LOVES it! The first night I had him sleep on his left side and he slept from 9:00pm until 5:45am without waking up. All week he has been only waking up once, it has been great. He also has decided he doens't need to be rocked to sleep, he just wants his binki, blanket, and that wedge and he puts himself to sleep. (that's a happy-sad.) Anyway, we are hoping that rotating him on that will help his little noggen so we don't have to get a helmet for the little man. Cross your fingers!
