So for a quick catch up, December was a month of sick sick sick! Sawyer was puking for a full week straight. He couldn't even hold down water and he lost a lot of weight. No worries though, he has since made up for it times 3! Now, on average, he eats about 7 meals a day plus snacks and drinks. Then he was better for a week and we had Christmas. Christmas day he had a high fever and it stayed for a few days. We took him to the doctors and he had an ear infection in both ears and his sinus infection was sneaking up into his eyes...again. Then he was fit as a fiddle full of energy and happy as a clam while Jake and I got the flu. Needless to say, we had a fun New Years. But, the holidays were lots of fun with family. My brother Jake flew in from Texas and we got to see him a few times. For the most part Sawyer LOVED opening presents. I say most because my brothers got him a T-rex puppet and as soon as he opened it he cried and cried, pushing it away saying "no, no, no!" Then he refused to open another present until I showed him it wasn't anything scary. A month later he has a love hate relationship with that T-rex. He loves to play with it, but if anyone else picks it up to show him, he screams and back away as much as possible. Needless to say, Jake REALLY is thankful my brothers got it for him. He had a great Christmas and really loves all his presents, everything from clothes to cars to his art easel. Apparently grandparents, aunts and unlces, and friends give better gifts than Santa though. He loves the stuff he got from everyone else WAY better than his little load from Santa. Hopefully in the summer when he can use his wiggle car he will like Santa's gift a little better.
It's really amazing how fast they grow into little people. He has been trying to push all kinds of boundaries lately. He will purposely put electrical cords in his mouth to see what I will do. Needless, to say he is learning what time out is. Unfortunately, he has started to not mind time out. A few times this week I gave him a warning saying (and this was my mistake) "If you do (thing) I'll put you in time out. Do you want to go to time out?" and his response was "uh-huh" with a feverish head nod. Then of course he did it again. On a side note his head nods aren't exactly head nods. He hasn't figured out how to just move his head so he does a full body nod. It is almost like he is doing one big jump. He also is now throwing tantrums when we have to put away things before we leave or take a nap, especially when we put away his art supplies, bubbles, or balls. Ahhh, the joys of motherhood.
He is still not walking, but he's getting closer. Jake and I were having him take steps to us. I was so excited to see him take two tiny quick steps to Jake before he dived. We cheered him on and sent him back to me. Again, it was two tiny quick steps and a dive. Then when we tried it again it was just the dive. Now it is back to just diving. I think he must have thought the cheer for the dive rather than the steps. He does love running down the hall holding your hands. He giggles and giggles the whole time. That also might be because Basil tries to follow licking his face.
I say running because to get him to do it i have to say, "Let's run!" If I happen to say "Let's walk!" He refuses. He'll hold up his legs and arch his back and scream. He certainly knows what he wants.
