Today Sawyer is 5 months. This past month has been quite an adventurous one. Sawyer went to his first music group (Thanks cousin Mandy, Seth and Aubrey for inviting us!) We also got to play with cousins lots and lots! There was shopping with JaiAnn and Emma, visiting Grandma and Grandpa Meakin, the Garn Girl Craft Days, he got to be babysat by the Pratt Family and Gma Garn while mom and dad went on a couple dates, and played at Gpa and Gma's for the superbowl. It's sure been a fun month.
Sawyer is starting to learn to roll.Until this last week Sawyer has been so stubborn about trying to roll from tummy to back. He doesn't mind tummy time, but he just liked to kick his legs and wouldn't try to move. On his back; however, he would constantly try to flip over to his tummy and he's almost got it. Then about two weeks ago Mom put Sawyer on his tummy while she did laundry. His toy was just out of reach. When she walked back in he was 180 degrees in the other direction. She couldn't figure out how that happened. "Did he roll twice?" So she did an experiment latter that day. Once again Sawyer was on his tummy and his toy out of reach. To Mom's suprise he layed is head down, scrunched up his legs and scooted towards it. Unfortunately he doesn't have a good aim, so he missed the toy. He only tries to scoot once in a while, which we're all happy about. We are NOT ready for a mover! His scooting technique has helped him understand the concept of rolling over though. About a week ago he started scrunching his legs and arching his back. He's pretty close, but he can't seem to figure out what to do with his right arm...it just gets in the way!
Sawyer is also figuring out how to play with his tongue. He is definately his mother's son because he can turn it both ways and curl it. His new thing is sticking it in and out like a lizard though. He is also trying to figure out whistling. He thinks it is the coolest thing ever. It calms him down instantly.
Sawyer started eating foods this past month as well. Mom read all the different opinions on starting babies on solids before 6 months or waiting and in the end, she decided it was going to be best to start him for a few different reasons: the first is he is still waking anywhere between 5-9 times a night. There have only been 2 days since the week of Christmas where he has only woken twice. We thought he might be too hungry. (It isn't that.) The second reason is he is sooo interested. He was licking his lips and opening his mouth, reaching for the food anytime I was eating or drinking anything! The third reason is every time we visit Grandpa Meakin he wants to feed him. I'm suprised I was able to hold off for 4 1/2 months! We needed to get Sawyer used to things before Grandpa started shoving things in his mouth. :) The fourth reason and final decision maker was he met ALL the criteria for starting babies on solids. He LOVES it, so that is good.
Sawyer's favorite toys at 5 months are his stuffed animals, specifically Albert Einstein (thanks Andy and Tara!), Fredrick the Frog, and his green lion (thanks Gpa and Gma) He is also starting to like his Kangaroo rattle one.
He has also grown a lot since he was born. Seeing sweet little Brisbane and Emma makes me realized how much he really has grown. He is 27 inches long and 16+ lbs. AND his head is finally rounding out in the back. Hurray! no helmet for Sawyer!!!
We love you Sawyer, can't believe your 5 months!

I'm sorry he's still not sleeping through the night at all! Just let him cry his head off. That's what we had to do w/Kimball when he would sleep 30min at night. Little sleep must run in the family-especially for you. Sorry!
